Mazamitla, which means "Land of the Deer", is nestled in the foothills of the Great Sierra Madre Occidental. Topography 35% is mountainous terrain with elvations from 7,283 ft. to over 8,000 ft. above sea level. Valleys make up approximately 40% of the area.
Climate: The dry season runs from November through May. The rainy season stgarts in early JUne and runs through October. Temperatures avarage 71 degrees Farenheit with lows around 44 degrees Farenheit for an average of 52 days (Jan. - Feb.) lower than 44 degrees Farenheit.
The Forest: There is an extensive forested area of 1,605,000 acres, have of which are private properties. There are varietys of pines, plenty of teak and many other trees. Governmental regulations are in place to protect the "green areas".
In the last three years, people have discovered the beauty of the area. The town has been recognized by The Mexican government as "Pueblo Magico" which means Magic Town. With federal regulations protecting the environment and the buildings, this recognition is similar to a nbational monument but does not impede the construction of new areas. One example of new construction is La Toscana Golf & Country Club.
